  • Service learning courses are a great way to observe at local organizations
  • Take on a leadership position in a student club or organization - Check out ConnectSU for a list
  • Apply for an on-campus job - Handshake will get you started
  • Talk with your academic advisor about your values, interests, and how these mesh with your academic pursuits
  • Find a faculty or staff to be a mentor
  • Visit with Career Engagement and attend their events
  • Follow up with a professional who comes to your class to speak
  • First-year and Transfer students may participate in the Ignite Mentorship Program 
  • Many A&S faculty conduct research and need student assistants - just ask
  • The Education Abroad Office will help you plan for studying abroad




  • Volunteer and community service placements - start by talking with Community Engagement 
  • Hold a part-time job
  • Update your Linked In profile
  • Reach out to someone in your network and invite them to coffee. Ask them questions about how they got started in their career
  • Participate in a job shadow - start by asking someone you know if you can observe them at work for a few hours
