Meet the Mentors

Once you log into LinkUp, you will have a chance to view the skills, interest areas, and the various identities of participating mentors. You will then have the opportunity to join multiple mentors in various session rooms based on your common interests. Remember these mentors are here to give you insight into their career path and to help you, please do not ask for additional contacts within your desired field, take the time to understand your mentor's pathway to their profession.

Tips for Success

Virtual Networking Tips

  • Come dressed business casual for your camera view, ensure there are no distractions in your background, choose a quiet place to participate, and be sure to test your microphone and camera connection before joining LinkUp
  • Think about why you chose to attend LinkUp, what is your goal while meeting the mentors?
  • Be prepared with a 30-60 second introduction of yourself (an elevator pitch)
  • Have a short list of prepared questions to ask the mentors
  • Update or create a Linked In profile

What to do after LinkUp

Be proactive! These alumni and friends have joined this event to help you, so please take the time to reach out to at least one mentor for a follow up meeting. They have volunteered to participate in LinkUp, because they want to see our current students succeed. Those that have joined want to hear from you after the event, please reach out within 48 hours of LinkUp concluding.

Conversation Starters

We know that networking can be daunting and/or feel awkward. Use these prompts to start your mentor discussions more smoothly:

  • Briefly share your personal and professional history
  • Share highlights of your SU and college experience
  • Ask about the alumnus' experience while at SU. What organizations/clubs were they a part of?
  • Ask about the alumnus' professional journey. How did they get to where they are today?
  • Share tentative plans for your professional journey following graduation
  • Talk about your favorite SU tradition or location on campus
  • The goal is to quickly move conversations into professional pathways and journeys.
