Assistant Area Coordinators (Handshake job #7576577)

The Assistant Area Coordinators (AAC) is a graduate assistant position in Housing & Residence Life.

There are several positions; one each in Bellarmine, Chardin, and Xavier Halls. Two are located in Campion Hall. Campion is a 650 student co-ed residence hall and Bellarmine is a similar residence hall with 420 students. Chardin is a suite-style community of 148 students and Xavier Hall is a global engagement community of 180 students.

Each position is designed to provide an experience for graduate students to develop skills and competencies in translating theory to practice, teaching and training, administration and management, multicultural awareness, helping and interpersonal skills, assessment and evaluation, and ethical and legal experience.

The AAC assists with the selection, training and supervision of Resident Assistants (RA), co-supervises the hall front desk operation, helps coordinate special interest floor programming, adjudicates minor conduct cases, advises hall council and provides support to the Residence Hall Association (RHA). In addition, the AAC is required to live in the hall and participate in the on-call duty rotation.

The AAC reports in a half time (20 hours per week) capacity to their respective Area Coordinator and an Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life.

Graduate Assistant for Care and Crisis Response (Handshake job #7579136)

The Graduate Assistant for Care and Crisis Response (GACCR) is a part-time graduate assistant position in Housing and Residence Life (HRL). Along with the Assistant Area Coordinators, the GACCR is one of 6 graduate assistants in Housing and Residence Life. GAs in Housing are required to live in an on-campus apartment, which is provided by the university, and to participate in an on-duty rotation to respond to campus emergencies and resident concerns.

 

The GACCR assists with HRL on-duty response after business hours and on weekends/holidays and follows up on care and student conduct referrals as directed by the Office of the Dean of Students. The GACCR may also participate in supporting operations and community development in the department, including opening and closing, and recruitment, selection, and training of student staff (Resident Assistants and front desk staff). The GACCR may also do a variety of the following tasks (but not limited to): supporting Resident Assistants (RAs) while on-duty, adjudicating conduct cases, and other duties as assigned. 

 

The GACCR reports directly to the Associate Director of Community Engagement & Learning Initiatives. Indirect supervision is provided by the Housing and Residence Life Lead Team (Director, Associate, and Assistant Director of HRL).
