Health Insurance

A message from our Director, Ryan Greene

Dear Seattle University International Student,

I am writing to inform you about Seattle University’s international student insurance provider - Wells Fargo. As you may know, each year you are automatically enrolled in SU’s Wells Fargo insurance plan and if you are hoping to utilize your own personal insurance plan this year you will need to waive out of the Wells Fargo policy (even if you waived out last year, you will need to waive out again this year). Please note, even if you are on a sponsored program, or your government is paying for your insurance, you still need to fill out the waiver form.

In order for you to learn more about the plan we will be having informational sessions early in the Fall quarter so we can answer any questions you may have about the new policy.

In order to waive out of the new SU insurance program you will need to fill out the online waiver form at:

16-17 International Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Coverage

Any questions about the waiver can be directed to Wells Fargo Customer Care Line at 800-853-5899. The last date you can submit the online waiver form for Winter Quarter is January 13, 2017.

This is a firm and hard date so waivers can’t be accepted after this date for any reason.

Some aspects of SU’s policy that have also dictated our waiver process include having Primary Care & Emergency Services within a 25 mile radius of Seattle University. Your personal plan would also need to have coverage for Inpatient and Outpatient Mental Health benefits & prescription drug coverage. Furthermore, you will need to have a maximum annual benefit maximum that is unlimited per accident or illness and an annual deductible not to exceed $100 per accident or illness. Finally, for a policy to get waived it will need to have repatriation of remains coverage in the amount of $25,000 and coverage for medical evacuation to your home country in the amount of $25,000. Again, please feel free to contact the Wells Fargo Customer Care Line with any questions.
