Learning Style and Study Skills Assessments

To gain a better understanding of yourself as a learner, it would be helpful to evaluate the way you learn best by completing the most appropriate inventory tool to meet your needs. After completing an inventory, we would encourage you to discuss the results with a Learning Specialist who can help you to use this information to develop an approach that enhances your learning potential.
The following inventories are available in the Learning Assistance Programs office:

  1. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) can give you insights into your preferences about how you use your perception and judgment and how these preferences can impact your daily life and the way you relate to others.
  2. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) is designed to assess an individual's preferred learning style - how that person deals with ideas and day-to-day situations.
  3. The Barsch Learning Style Inventory evaluates your visual, auditory, and kinesthetic approach to learning to better understand how you process information most effectively.
  4. The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) asks specific questions about your current learning and study practices and attitudes. If you would like to take the LASSI online, please consult with a Learning Specialist so that we can provide you with the necessary access codes.

There are also several inventories available on our website. Please look under "Resources" in the menu for online learning style inventories. You can complete them and then bring them to an appointment with a Learning Specialist. The Specialist will help you adapt your learning strategies to your strengths.
