Most of us know Professor Shih for his long-running service as President of Academic Assembly. He was first elected in 2017 and re-elected to the position for three additional terms, serving until this year. Hallmarks of Professor Shih’s leadership in this role include, working to improve civil dialogue and conversations, respectful conflict resolution, and a greater focus on action-oriented outcomes while promoting a working partnership with the Provost's Office. Professor Shih also served on the Presidential Task Force for managing Covid-19. This task force met weekly throughout the pandemic (Winter 2020 to 2022) working diligently to navigate unprecedented challenges. Professor Shih has also served as a member of President Peñalver’s Reignite Strategic Directions Committee and now serves as co-chair for a GOAL 3 Working Group that focuses on BIPOC faculty recruitment and retention.
