Excellence in Teaching Full-Time Term Faculty

Andrea Verdan, College of Science and Engineering

Professor Verdan is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Chemistry department where her colleagues describe her as a leader in adopting teaching practices that are known to promote learning for all students, but with focused attention to the success of students who have been historically underrepresented in STEM. In addition to her engaging, creative approaches to learning, Professor Verdan is a dedicated academic advisor and serves as the faculty mentor to the Chemistry Club. Professor Verdan is also the Associate Director for Term Faculty at the Center for Faculty Development, where she offers workshops and consultations to support faculty to adopt evidence-based, inclusive practices in their own teaching.  In this role, she facilitates an Ignatian Pedagogy Series on Inclusive Pedagogies, leads sessions on the student retention-based program TILT (Transparency in Learning and Teaching), and engages colleagues in conversations on comprehensive, inclusive approaches to Teaching in the Jesuit Tradition. Her colleagues describe her as a tremendous asset to both our students and to the progressive, inclusive teaching culture of SU.
