Bo Han, Albers School of Business and Economics

Since joining the university in 2016 as a faculty member in Finance, Professor  Han has gained a reputation for being an exceptional teacher.  His colleagues comment that Dr. Han is a passionate educator whose work strongly exemplifies the Jesuit approach to higher education. His teaching approach blends experiential learning with critical thinking, allowing students to actively engage with the subject matter and uncover its practical implications. Professor Han is also committed to fostering inclusivity and promoting diversity in his classrooms, creating an environment that nurtures equality and understanding. His colleagues observe that there is typically a waiting list for his Business Finance course, despite the challenge of the subject. They further comment on his varied and creative teaching methods, including flipped classrooms and exceptionally innovative uses of Canvas tools for generating discussion and active learning. Professor Han has been recognized for this innovation with the Innovation in Teaching Award from the Financial Management Association, where he has been an engaged member in promoting exceptional educational practices that enhance the quality and relevance of education in finance. In addition to his excellence in the classroom, Professor Han is a dedicated, involved mentor who coaches students for job interviews, places students in internships, and writes numerous letters of reference. He has also served as the co-advisor for a student-run investment fund. Of his own dedication, Professor Han writes: After joining Seattle University, I found a perfect match between my teaching philosophy and the university’s mission and vision. My exposure to the Jesuit tradition through programs such as the Arrupe Seminar Series and the Jesuit Mission Fellow program further deepened my understanding of the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm, which I try to embody in all aspects of my teaching.
