This discussion offers a new psychological account of fraud that helps assess who gets defrauded and why. While much has been written about the checks and balances needed to curtail fraud and about the mechanics of discerning it, far less has been written about what might be termed the psychological logic of fraud. Dr. Koehn will discuss three cases of fraud to examine how this account helps us understand the phenomenon of fraud; in particular, she argues that victims of fraud are not always innocent and that victims of fraud are sometimes themselves co-creators of the fraud they encounter and even complicit in their deception.
