Join the discussion regarding the urban disorder in Seattle. Topics will include:

  • homelessness
  • mental health and crisis intervention
  • displaced youth
  • open-air drug activity
  • the line between free speech and criminal activity, and
  • collective response to public disorder

This event is aimed for criminal justice professionals, social service providers, students, and citizens concerned with public safety and issues surrounding urban disorder.

0:20-10:30 --> Definition of the Problem and Context: What is disorder? What causes disorder, who is involved, and where do they come from?
10:30-10:45 --> Break
10:45-12:00 --> Responses to Disorder
12:00-1:00 --> Lunch (on site)
1:00-2:30 --> Constitutional Implications of Managing Urban Activities: Protests/Civil Disobedience/Homelessness - where is the line between constitutional rights and criminal activity?
2:30-2:45 --> Break
2:45-4:30 --> Solutions: Collective community action

Cost* $100 General public; $75 Alumni; $50 Students and Campus Community 

*Cost includes continuing education event, continental breakfast and lunch, and continuing education certificate of completion. All proceeds go to the Seattle University Department of Criminal Justice's Center for the Study of Crime and Justice to fund student research
