Thematic Cluster Dissertations
Single Chair, Common Theme, Different Research Questions within the Theme
When students have a shared interest in a topic of research, a thematic cluster dissertation (often referred to as a partner or team dissertation) is a consideration. A thematic cluster dissertation is when 2-3 students have a similar interest and commit to work together throughout the process. Each student still writes an individual dissertation that can stand alone on its merits.
Students collaboratively pursue the same basic research question but in varied settings or contexts. Students collaborate in reviewing the literature and create research purpose statement and research questions closely related to the shared theme. Methodologies may be the same or different, depending on the question being pursued.
