World Relief Garden

The Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering are working together to support a World Relief community garden in Kent, WA. World Relief Seattle provides a range of services to refugees from around the world who have relocated to the Puget Sound area. The Hillside Church in Kent has donated space for the community garden which serves families from over 20 different countries! These families use their traditional farming methods and grow foods that may otherwise not be available at their local grocery store. The multicultural feasts throughout the year build community and help attendees learn about different foods and customs.  The garden also serves as a living laboratory for the nearby Mill Creek Middle School. In addition to plant biology, the curriculum includes stormwater management and composting modules.
