Unpacking Whiteness Meetings

Posted: October 12, 2023

All faculty and staff are welcome to join Unpacking Whiteness for the first conversations of the new academic year. This affinity group focuses on helping white people do their own work and process in a space where mistakes can be made without further harm to communities and individuals historically marginalized according to racial identity.

Two meetings will be held next week and your input will be sought for planning subsequent meetings this year.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 12:30 to 1:25 p.m. on Zoom
  • Friday, Oct. 20 from 1 to 1:55 p.m. on Zoom

Please contact Kari Langsea with any questions or to be added to the group’s e-mail list and Teams channel.

Unpacking Whiteness Purpose Statement:  Founded in 2015 by three SU staff, this staff affinity group continues to organize around its three-fold mission for:

  • White-identified faculty and staff to unlearn/challenge/interrogate their unearned privilege and socialized racism;
  • Engaging an increasing number of white-identified colleagues in education, reflection, and transformation both individually and in their spheres of influence; and
  • Meaningful action, which will help co-create and transform Seattle University to a more inclusively excellent environment.

(Edited Oct. 17, 2023 to clarify language and status as an affinity group.)
