Summer Visitors on Campus: Aug. 2 Update

While summer can be a slow season for many campus areas, it is a time that Event Sales and University Events ramp up and serve approximately 40 overnight programs.

Each week, Event Sales will send an update on the groups you can expect to see at Seattle University. In the upcoming few weeks, you may see guests around campus from the following programs:

New Programs: 

  • Urban Sustainability: a Seattle University program where high school students will critically consider what the environment entails, human impacts, and ways to approach sustainability.
  • Baseball Camp: Seattle University’s baseball day camp, taught by our Seattle University baseball coaches.
  • Women’s Basketball Camp: Seattle University’s youth basketball day camp, taught by our Seattle University women’s basketball coaches.
  • The Powell Holocaust Summer Institute: Teaching for Humanity, an intensive 4-day summer institute designed for teachers of grades 6-12 to explore in-depth topics of the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights, while gaining practical tools to bring these lessons to their students.
  • Nike Junior Golf Camp: a youth golf program taught by our Seattle University golf coach.
  • States’ 4-H Arrival Orientation: a youth program from 4-H that provides cultural entry and exit support to foreign exchange students staying in Americans’ homes.
  • Texas State University Extension Career Exploration Course: Public Relations in Seattle: a seven-day field trip to study the public relations industry in Seattle, including networking with industry leaders in Amazon, Expedia, Pike's Place Market, Microsoft, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Discovery Center, and Weyerhauser.
  • Camp Ozobot: a coding summer camp created by US Sports Camps that incorporates STEM principles using their award-winning robot.

Continuing Programs: 

  • For the Strength of Youth (FSY): a program for Mormon teens from Washington State to focus on faith, fun, and improving character (about 300 visitors!)
  • Tech Revolution Camps/Lavner Education: weekly summer youth camps in computer coding, robotics, game design, and engineering
  • Upward Bound: a summer-long academic program that helps local kids prepare for college.
  • City University Summer in Seattle: an English language and American culture camp for college students visiting from Mexico.
  • Intern housing: living accommodations for students at universities from all over the US who are participants in internship programs in the Seattle area; many of these students will be staying all summer.
