Payroll Deduction for WA Cares Fund Begins

The newly mandated employee payroll deduction for the WA Cares Fund began July 1. According to state law, the premium has been fixed at 0.58% of gross wages, equivalent to $0.58 per $100. To illustrate, if an employee’s annual earnings amount to $65,000, the total annual premium would be $377, or $15.71 per paycheck.

It is important to note that if you have previously applied for an exemption, no deduction will be made. Additionally, if you work outside of the state, you are automatically exempted from the payroll tax. Should you have any further inquiries, please reach out to payroll@seattleu.edu.
