Announcing a New Opportunity to Support Homeownership

Posted: March 2, 2022

Seattle University is pleased to announce a new benefit program provided by Landed, a company that was founded around the idea of supporting people on a path toward home ownership. Landed’s work to address social inequities and wealth gaps in the housing market aligns with our own mission and values. The Seattle area housing market is especially challenging. This new benefit will help to better support our faculty and staff, and complement Reigniting Our Strategic Directions initiatives that focus on the success of faculty and staff and making the university a rewarding place to work.

Landed helps faculty and staff in higher education purchase homes by providing up to $120,000 toward a down payment through a shared equity down payment program and by connecting faculty and staff to homebuying resources. 21% of Landed down payment customers in 2021 self-identified as Black, Other Race, and Multiracial and 24% as Hispanic or Latino, far above national homebuyer averages.

A series of information sessions will be hosted in March. All faculty and staff interested in purchasing a home or learning more about the homebuying process are encouraged to attend:

  • March 8, 2022 | 4:30–5:30 p.m. → RSVP for the info session here
  • March 10, 2022 | 4:30–5:30 p.m. → RSVP for the info session here
  • March 22, 2022 | 12:00–1:00 p.m. → RSVP for the info session here
  • March 23, 2022 | 4:30–5:30 p.m. → RSVP for the info session here

Faculty and staff who are unable to attend the info sessions can sign up to learn more and schedule a 1:1 consultation with Landed here. An info session recording in Spanish is available here. For a high-level overview of areas where Landed can invest, click here

More information...

Landed's shared equity down payment program invests alongside Seattle University faculty and staff to help them reach a 20% down payment. Landed’s funds come in the form of an equity investment, meaning homebuyers share in a portion of the gain (or loss, if any) of the home’s value once the partnership is ended—typically by sale or refinance.

The down payment program is one piece of holistic homebuying support that Landed offers, including in-depth homebuyer education, access to a vetted real estate agent network, and comprehensive reviews of property reports to help homebuyers make informed homebuying decisions. Landed also offers an experienced homebuying team to help navigate the homebuying process, from financing to search to close.

Landed’s down payment program is open to all benefits eligible Seattle University faculty and staff and is available immediately. Participants do not need to be first time homebuyers and there are no income or asset limits needed to qualify. This program is intended for faculty and staff who anticipate continuing their career at Seattle University for at least two years and who want to invest in a home with the possibility of increased value.

We hope you are able to learn more at one of these upcoming informational webinars.

Sincerely,
