Mission Priority Examen Self-Study Draft

October 24, 2023

Dear Seattle University Community,

After numerous input sessions with many of our Seattle University community members this past spring quarter, the Mission Priority Examen Steering Committee spent the summer writing a Self-Study document and soliciting the endorsement of Senior Leadership and the Board of Trustees. I am delighted to share that the penultimate draft of our Mission Priority Examen Self-Study is now available for the university community to read. You can find the draft document here

The draft document is being shared with members of the Visiting Team:

  • Tania Tetlow, President, Fordham University (Chair of the Visiting Team)

  • Kevin Burke, S.J., Vice President for University Mission, Regis University

  • Xavier Cole, President, Loyola University New Orleans

  • Michael Kaufmann, Dean, School of Law, Santa Clara University

  • Claire Noonan, Vice President for Mission Integration, Loyola University Chicago

The team will join the university community on campus November 29-30 and is scheduled to meet with various groups, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and trustees. Members of working groups to advance Reigniting Strategic Directions, Staff Council and AcA leadership, colleagues from Student and Campus Life and Student Success, as well as from Mission Integration, are also among those who have been invited to meet with the visiting team. Others interested in engaging with the visiting team are invited to participate through a virtual open forum scheduled for Thursday, November 30 at 2:30 p.m. (registration information below).

To prepare for this upcoming visit, the MPE Steering Committee has scheduled opportunities to learn more about the self-study draft report and Seattle University’s mission priorities. These gatherings are an opportunity to begin to reflect on the work ahead of us in implementing these priorities. These are as follows:

  • In-person on Wednesday, November 1 at 11:30 a.m. in the Rolfe Conference Room

  • Zoom on Tuesday, November 7 at 12:30 p.m.

  • Zoom on Wednesday, November 8 at 2:30 p.m.

To register for one of these sessions and/or for the virtual open forum on November 30, please visit the To Participate link on the MPE website.

Your continued engagement with the Mission Priority Examen is invaluable for ensuring that Seattle University remains anchored in its Jesuit and Catholic character. Thank you for your continued participation in this essential work.

Respectfully,

Eduardo M. Peñalver
President
