The African and African American Studies Program examines the importance of the intellectual and cultural history of the global African presence in the general scheme of world affairs. We work primarily from the African American experience outwards to the African Diaspora and, ultimately, the source-head of all things African: the African continent. Our program expands by focusing on the importance of the intellectual and cultural history of the global African presence in the general scheme of world affairs.
Degree offered: minor
Career and Job Opportunities with an African and African American Studies Program Minor: Designed to complement a major field of study, the minor in African and African American Studies helps to prepare students for employment in a variety of professional and career opportunities in the arts, sciences, and social and behavioral sciences. Many of our minors continue graduate studies in African, African American, and African Diaspora Studies. They also engage in professional programs in law, medicine, business, and journalism. They enter the job market prepared for careers and leadership roles in human services and public health, education, public relations, community development, and urban planning. Other opportunities are in the public sector, public institutions, cultural relations, and international affairs.
