Seattle University’s Nonprofit Leadership program offers you the opportunity to develop the skills you need to inspire and transform your organization and your community as you carve the path to a just and humane world. Both our Master of Nonprofit Leadership (MNPL) and our Graduate Certificate in Fundraising Leadership provide a variety of pathways to help you achieve the change you envision.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Stephan Blanford to the faculty of Nonprofit Leadership to teach board governance beginning in the winter of 2019.

Faculty member Dr. Stephan Blanford

Dr. Blanford brings extensive experience with nonprofit and public boards. He was elected and served on the Seattle School Board, providing oversight and governance for a 52,000 student, $1 billion urban school district. He also served on the Board of Directors of United Way of King County, the nation's largest United Way organization.

A practitioner and student of leadership and equity, Dr. Blanford has led several local nonprofits, and provided consultation support to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, principals and administrators of the largest school districts in the State of Washington and nonprofit organizations throughout the region. Most recently, he was appointed as an Executive in Residence at the Seattle Foundation.

Dr. Blanford holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy and an MPA from the Evans School, and has served as a lecturer at the University of Washington. Dr. Blanford is certified as an Equity Coach by the National Equity Project, co-leads the popular Race and Leadership Dialogues in Seattle and is a reviewer for the Journal of African American Males in Education.
