The Inverted Space ensemble presents a concert program of innovative, open-score musical works from the past half-century, featuring pieces from Yoko Ono, Julius Eastman, Mark Applebaum, Melissa Wang, and a world premiere from Luke Fitzpatrick.
The group—featuring Luke Fitzpatrick (violin), Melissa Wang (percussion), Jeff Bowen (guitar), Laure Struber (piano), and multi-instrumentalist Marcin Pączkowski—will present their interpretations of these scores, which employ unconventional notation strategies that leave substantial musical decisions open to interpretation, engaging the player's agency, discretion, and imagination in their realization of the work. Scores will be projected behind the ensemble during the performance, so that both audience and ensemble can engage with the process leading from notation to sonic realization.
