March 10, 2023

The Seattle University Choirs (Dr. Leann Conley-Holcom, Director) will present DREAMING OURSELVES AWAKE: A LENTEN PRAYER, on Friday March 10 at 8pm at Seattle First Baptist Church. This concert follows a long tradition of Winter Quarter musical offerings that include reflections upon the Christian liturgical season of Lent.

The choirs are joined by the twelve-voice University of Washington Graduate Choral Cohort, violinist Naomi Southard, cellist Sarah Rommel, and Composer-in-Residence Melissa Dunphy, whose works will be performed including the deeply relevant multi-movement cantata American DREAMers. This piece brings to light the stories of immigrants in the wake of anti-immigrant rhetoric; texts from five young Americans who were brought to America as children were chosen and woven into a work that honors their story and inspires hope, empathy, and action.

Also on the program is music by Susan LaBarr, Bob Dylan, Kevin Allen, and more.
