What does being first-gen mean to you?
Serving as a trailblazer for the remainder of my family. Paving the way and showing folks that despite the challenges, that it is possible to achieve your dreams.
What challenges/barriers have you faced or overcome during college?
Financial hardship, poverty, and food insecurity. I was an out-of-state transfer student which made being away from family challenging as well.

Mentors, the Outreach Center, Student Support programs, The Qube at UW-Stout

What advice would you give to someone else who is also first-gen?
Take advantage of the opportunities that life presents to you - leadership, service, mentorship, etc. Don't let those moments or experiences pass you by, because they can ultimately change the trajectory of your life for the better. :) You are not alone and know that you definitely have support at SU.
