In keeping with the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person, Seattle University created the Executive Leadership Certificate Program (ELP) more than 20 years ago. Designed to address what C-suite and senior level executives found lacking in their organizations—wise and thoughtful leadership and insightful, well-informed, discerning leaders—it has become the go-to training ground for future leaders in many of the region’s largest companies.
This 7-month certificate program provides an in-depth exploration of leadership and its personal meaning in each participant’s life. Highly regarded as a stand-alone certificate program, it also serves as the first two quarters of the Leadership Executive MBA program.
The program is life changing and easily one of the best things I’ve ever done. Not only does it make you a better employee, it makes you a better human being.Keith Otsuka, ELP ‘13 Chief Pilot, Commercial Airplanes, Boeing
Most universities offer leadership courses, but few focus on developing your voice and vision as a leader the way the ELP does. Because what we teach is directly transferrable to your work, over the course of the program, you’ll make noticeable changes in your approach and become not only more influential as a manager and leader but also more valuable as an employee.
Through rigorous coursework, application, and time for reflection, you’ll deepen your leadership perspective and skills and have the opportunity to put your leadership into action on an issue of importance to you.
The outcome is a deeper knowledge of leadership with:
In small class settings and with one-on-one executive coaching, you’ll have the opportunity to discover how you’re perceived, who you want to be as a leader, and what leadership means in your life. Graduates consistently tell us that the program was a defining personal and professional experience and one of the most transformative of their careers and even their lives.
The ELP includes a residential retreat, advanced experiential learning, team projects and the opportunity to work one-on-one with some of the area’s top executive coaches. Classes meet once a month in two- to three-day modules.
The Executive Leadership Certificate program was truly an amazing experience. The program was transformative; it challenged me in ways I wasn't expecting. I would do it again in a heartbeat! I wish we could offer this program to everybody. This is the kind of leadership program that would be beneficial in every setting and for all disciplines.Anne Hirsch, ELP '17 Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, UW School of Nursing
