Dr. William Weis is Professor of Management in the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University. His teaching currently focuses on leadership, team development and emotional intelligence. He served as Director of the MBA program from 1995 to 2009.
Professor Weis' recent research and publications have focused on emotional intelligence training, the impact of industry forces on the public health, urban planning and development, service learning in business curricula, strategies for improving MBA retention rates, enhancing service and competitiveness in the MBA markets, and accounting history. His previous research and writing interests have included the economic impact of smoking in the workplace, design and implementation of workplace smoking policies, critiques of contemporary business curricula, and nonprofit financial reporting issues. He has published two books and over 100 articles, invited columns, congressional testimony, and business cases addressing the above issues. Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Weis worked as a CPA for both Ernst & Young and Owens Illinois, Inc.
In addition to his work in academia and public accounting, Professor Weis has been a professional actor and film narrator, and is co-founder of the acclaimed Leavenworth Summer Theater. He has written, produced, and narrated several documentaries and short films, including "Watch Your Waste" (for King County Solid Waste Division); "Luca Pacioli: Unsung Hero of the Renaissance, an historical documentary on the life and contributions of Renaissance mathematician Luca Pacioli" (for South-Western Publishing); "Luca Pacioli: Renaissance Scholar," a short video on the life and contributions of Luca Pacioli; "90 Days to a Smoke-Free Workplace," a video training program (for Bureau of Business Practices, Prentice Hall); and "Let's Clear the Air" (for Bureau of Business Practices, Prentice Hall).
