Catholicism in the Pacific Northwest

Fathers James Eblen and Pat Howell SJ are returning to team-teach this unique offering!

Hundreds of Catholic emigrants and congregations of Women and Men Religious arrived with a venturesome spirit. Native peoples influenced spiritual perceptions. A distinctive local church began to grow. Ecumenism and suspicion marched forward together. An American spirit of collaboration with lay men and women let the Church flourish. Old world patterns gave way to new world exigencies. Students will explore and consider what factors continue to play in this interface of tradition and experience! Meets only: Sept 27, Oct 25, Nov 29 (Thursdays, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.)

Pacific Northwest Culture & Religious Identity

With Rev. Dr. Kelly Wadsworth

This online course is designed to identify and analyze the pressing challenges to the Church in this region and focuses on increasing ecclesial fluency in matters of life, worldview, faith, and witness in the Pacific Northwest. Distinct from a class on the history, polity or doctrine of a particular tradition, this course will prepare participants to articulate faith from the lens of their own ecclesial tradition as well as through a global context.  Oct 1 - Nov 13, 2018
