New research suggests that we think with our hands as much as our brains. Electronic DIY kits are a fast path to begin making, tinkering, and learning through hands-on activities. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department has a variety of prepacked kits for those interested in soldering, and basic analog, digital, or microcontroller circuits, or just cool things to make!
"The best new job hires are those that stepped out of the classroom and got involved in hands-on projects early. Those people learn far more than those who just went to class.” - hirees
Want to learn more about transistors or other circuit components? Take a kit that uses those components of interest and make it! Then connect the product you've built to the oscilloscope and see and learn how the circuit operates. Every product below was designed by someone with electrical and computer engineering knowhow. Pick two or more products below and add that knowhow to your stock of understanding. This is one of the most enjoyable ways to teach yourself and gain knowhow beyond the books.
Need help understanding the circuit schematic -->>circuit operation? Ask our maker assistants and staff to help. Engineering student assistants and staff are available to help you assemble and solder electronic kits or help you with your personal project!
Would you like to design your own product including designing a printed circuit board? It's often the best way to learn! We can help you take that idea into the physical realm.
Take a deep breath, hold it, now relax and enter the makerspace for a bit of electrified play.
The following DIY Kits must be soldered and assembled from discrete components that come in bags.
The exception to this are those few kits marked Module come fully soldered and assembled.
