Summer Room Preferences, Roommate, and Other Logistics
Students are not able to indicate room type preferences for summer. If you wish to live in a shared space, you may indicate a roommate preference on the Housing Application.
Important Note: You may indicate your housing type preference on the Housing Application, but please note that, depending on space, you may be assigned a shared occupancy type, even if you indicate you prefer a single occupancy room type. We thank you for your patience and understanding as not all room types can be used as single occupancy space.
Summer Roommate Preferences
If you select to live in a shared occupancy space, you may indicate a roommate preference on the Housing Application. Please note that this other person must have a completed housing application on file for our office to make an assignment for them. We recommend that you speak to this person and ensure they have submitted their housing application and have entered your name in this section.
Additionally, if you indicate a roommate preference, you may still be assigned to a space with other roommates. For example, if you indicate only 1 other person here, you and that person may be assigned to a quad apartment, where you will share the space with 2 different individuals. Choosing a roommate does NOT automatically guarantee a room assignment for only two people.
Please note that indicating a roommate on the application is optional. If you do not choose a specific roommate, you will be assigned one (if assigned to a shared occupancy space). Also note that even if you indicated above a preference for a single room, you may still be assigned to a shared-occupancy room with a roommate.
Other Logistical Information
If you are not currently living on campus, you will receive more information about your move in logistics on your approved move-in date. Please expect to receive more information in mid-to-late May.
If you are currently living on campus, you will receive more information about moving to your summer room assignment when you are assigned a space mid-May. You are automatically approved to stay in your Spring term housing until summer occupancy begins. The spring-to-summer housing transition date will be Thursday, June 18 2026. Current residents will not need to find alternative housing options between June 13, 2026 (when the halls close for summer) and June 19, 2026 when summer occupancy begins.
If you will be a Murphy resident for the upcoming Fall Term, we will try and assign you to your room space for the fall, however we are not able to guarantee this. You may need to move again at the end of the summer term.
Selecting a meal plan for summer is not required, regardless of classification status. The below meal plans are available for purchase for the summer period. However, we ask that you strongly consider your plans for dining over the summer, given that Redhawk Dining may have limited hours. Check the dining page for the most up to date hours of operation.
Additionally, please note that you will be assigned an apartment with a fully functional kitchen, and you may want to cook more.
Although meal plan funds from summer will carry over to fall, we strongly encourage you consider a meal plan option that will meet your summer needs.
