Build Your Path With A Mentor In Your Corner
Sophomore year comes with big questions. MentorSU is a free program that pairs you with an early-career professional. Through honest conversations, you'll build the confidence to explore your strengths and consider what's next, without needing to have it all figured out. You'll also grow your network. You’ll connect with professionals in fields you're curious about and build real career skills like networking, interviewing, and talking about yourself with confidence. Come ready to ask questions and let this be the relationship that helps you figure out what's next.
An Overview of the Program
Beginning in November and running through May, you'll meet with monthly one-on-one with your mentor. In these meetings, you'll connect with your mentor, hear their perspective, and focus on one of the MentorSU discussion topics built to help you learn, connect, and find your path. Perfect your ability to tell your own story, figure out the keys to networking, or job shadow your mentor. Your monthly one-on-ones will be a time to connect, learn, and build your skills. You'll also attend three on-campus MentorSU events with all mentors and mentees throughout the academic year and attend three on-campus mentee cohort meetings to learn more from your peers and Seattle-area professionals. In total, you'll commit approximately 30 hours over the course of the academic year and gain clarity, connection, and skills.
MentorSU is designed to help you get someone in your corner who can be a sounding board for what is next and what is down the road. It is not a job or internship placement program.

FAQs
Any Seattle University sophomore in the 2026–27 academic year is eligible to apply. If you are in your second year this fall (FQ26), this program was made for you. You don't need a declared major, a polished resume, or a clear career plan. In fact, if you're still figuring things out, that's exactly the point. You do need to commit to showing up and investing in MentorSU.
MentorSU is designed to fit into your life, not take it over. You'll attend six group events over the year, three mentorship group events and three mentee cohort events, and meet one-on-one with your mentor once per month.
Yes. When you apply, you'll answer questions about your goals, your values, and what you're looking for in a mentor, things like communication style, shared experiences, shared identities, and areas of interest. We take matching seriously. The goal is a relationship built on genuine connection, not just professional overlap.
Each quarter comes with a range of possible discussion topics. You will choose what feels most relevant to you for each monthly meeting. Topics include exploring your strengths and motivations, navigating a specific challenge you're facing, or learning how your mentor found their path. Group events have their own programming, too, so you’ll never show up wondering what to do next. That said, there is flexibility, too. Your mentor is there for you and for your concerns about what is next.
Especially yes. MentorSU is not just for students who think they have it all figured out. In fact, for students who are in the middle of figuring it out, MentorSU is a perfect fit. Your mentor has been there, and they're not here to hand you a five-year plan. They're here to help you think more clearly about who you are and what matters to you.
