President's Updates

As we prepare to gather with loved ones to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, I am grateful to be a member of this community of care, dedicated to our Jesuit values, to academic excellence, and to empowering our students to become leaders for a just and humane world. 

Seattle University will close on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. This is a time to honor and express our deep gratitude to all who have served and continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces.

I am delighted to announce that Jordan Talge has been appointed Vice President and University Counsel, a role in which he will continue to provide exceptional leadership and legal guidance for Seattle University.

I write to share bittersweet news that I will be stepping down as President of Seattle University to become President at Georgetown University. My last day as your president will be at the end of winter quarter in March.

In light of President Peñalver’s announcement this morning, I want to express the Board of Trustees’ deep gratitude for Eduardo’s exceptional leadership and to share the path forward for Seattle University.

Today, Seattle University marks Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Observed on the second Monday of October, the commemoration can be traced to the 1977 International NGO Conference on Discrimination Against Indigenous Populations in the Americas.
