CSE Faculty Present at National Cybersecurity Education Conference
Thursday, December 18, 2025
Computer Science faculty members Dr. Burkhard Englert, Amazon Endowed Chair, and Dr. Zack Yang, Assistant Professor, represented Seattle University at the 2025 Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE), held on campus in November.
Englert and Yang’s session titled “The Role of AI—What Happens Next?” contributed to this year’s theme, Cybersecurity Education in the Age of AI and Automation & Ambiguity, which invited participants to reflect on how rapidly advancing technologies are shaping the future of this field.
In their presentation, Englert and Yang examined the interdisciplinary frontiers emerging at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity. They highlighted three major challenges shaping the future of AI use: establishing proof of personhood in an era of synthetic identities, developing effective governance frameworks for rapidly evolving AI systems, and addressing the complexities of modeling the real world in ways that remain robust, secure, and transparent. They also demonstrated how AI can be used to empower WEB3 audits by automating detection workflows and enhancing verification processes. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A focused on practical implications for cybersecurity education and industry collaboration.
Now in its 29th year, CISSE is the premier national conference dedicated to cybersecurity education, bringing together experts from academia, government and industry. Seattle University served as this year’s host institution, alongside the City University of Seattle as co-host.
