Student, Faculty, & Staff Memberships

Students are assessed a fee, which is included in their tuition invoice from Seattle University. Faculty/Staff receive a free membership to the facility as part of their benefits package.

Students who are matriculating at the university, but not currently enrolled in a class must pay $70 at UREC to register for a membership for the term in which they are not enrolled.

All members must present their Seattle University ID to access the facility. Students, Faculty, and Staff may add a Legally Domiciled Adult and Dependent(s) to their membership. All individuals must be present at the initial registration and only the primary member (Students, Faculty, and Staff) may renew the membership.

Alumni Memberships

To obtain an alumni membership, an individual must have earned at least 90 credits at Seattle University and/or earned a degree.

Legally Domiciled Adults (LDA) Memberships

LDAs of member may obtain membership to UREC. In accordance with the requirements set forth by Seattle University Human Resources, to be considered an LDA, an individual must meet the following criteria:

An LDA is an individual over 18 who has for at least 6 months lived in the same principal residence with the sponsor and remains a member of the sponsor's household throughout the coverage period, and who either:

  • Has a close personal relationship with the sponsor (not a casual roommate or tenant), shares basic living expenses and is financially interdependent with the sponsor, is neither legally married to anyone else nor legally related to the sponsor by blood in a way that would prohibit marriage.
  • Is the sponsor's blood relative who meets the definition of his or her tax dependent as defined by Section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code during the coverage period.

Required Documentation

An individual must present their driver's license in addition to the following upon initially obtaining a membership. Upon renewals documentation will be verified on an annual basis.

  • Common ownership of real property (joint deed or mortgage agreement) or a common leasehold interest in a property
  • Common ownership of a motor vehicle
  • Driver's license listing a common address
  • Proof of joint bank accounts or credit accounts
  • Proof of designation as the primary beneficiary for life insurance or retirement benefits or primary beneficiary designation under the other's will
  • Assignment of durable property power of attorney or health care power of attorney
  • Marriage Certificate
  • State Registered Domestic Partnership Documentation

*If at any time a sponsor loses their access to the facility (no longer employed at the University, etc.), the LDA will also forfeit his/her membership.

Dependent Memberships

Dependents of members may obtain a membership to UREC. In accordance with the requirements set forth by Seattle University Human Resources, to be considered a dependent, an individual must meet the following criteria:

A dependent is an individual who is an unmarried dependent up to age 26 (as defined by IRS regulations) who is one of the following in relation to the member:

  • natural child
  • stepchild
  • foster child
  • legally adopted child
  • child for whom the sponsor is the court appointed guardian
  • child of LDA, if eligible, and if the LDA is also a sponsor
  • Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in cardio, strength and fitness areas

The following restrictions apply

  • Children under the age of 16 cannot obtain a membership independent of the sponsor and will not be issued a separate membership card. Instead, the sponsor's card will include information denoting that he/she has a dependent under the age of 16 who has a membership to the facility.
  • Children 4 years of age and younger do not require any type of membership to utilize the facility, but they must be supervised by their sponsor at all times.

Documentation Required

No documentation is required to register a dependent under the age of 16 for a membership. Those dependents 16 years of age or older must provide documentation verifying their age upon initial enrollment or when they turn 16 and want to acquire their own membership ID. Acceptable documentation includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Driver's License
  • Birth Certificate
  • Adoption Certificate

*If at any time the sponsor loses his/her membership to the facility, the dependent(s) also forfeits his/her membership.

Family Memberships

A member can purchase a Family membership if they have 2 or more dependents or LDA’s seeking UREC membership. The sponsor of the family must be eligible for a membership on their own and must hold or purchase a membership in order for the family membership to be created.

Pricing example: If you are an alumni and have 2 dependents who would like memberships, you can sign up for the family membership. First, you will need to purchase an Alumni membership ($42/month) then, you can purchase the family membership which will grant membership to both of your dependents ($74/month). Therefore, for you and your 2 dependents the monthly cost will be $116.

Same documentation is required as the Dependent and LDA memberships.

*If at any time the sponsor loses his/her membership to the facility, the dependent(s) also forfeits his/her membership.

Sponsored Guests

UREC members may sponsor up to four guests at a time at a cost of $8 per person per visit. Each individual must have a photo ID and must enter the facility with the member. Other restrictions apply.
