B.A in the Theology and Religious Studies

One Degree, Two Specializations

The major in Theology and Religious Studies requires 50 credits in Theology and Religious Studies (THRS). This is in addition to the University Core curriculum (UCOR) requirements of UCOR 2100 Theological Explorations and UCOR 3100 Religion in a Global Context, courses often taught by our faculty.

Students must designate a specialization in either Christian Theology or Comparative Religion.

B.A in the Theology and Religious Studies

A. Christian Theology Specialization

Introductory and Intermediate Courses (10 credits)

• THRS 2011 - History of Catholic Theology

• THRS 2400 - Methods in Theology and Religious Studies

 

Christian Thought (5 credits)

Choose one 5 credit course from among options such as:

• THRS 2019 - Challenges to Christian Faith

• THRS 2091 - Latin American Liberation Theology

• THRS 2100 - Catholic Imagination

• THRS 2101 - Ignatian Spirituality

• THRS 3130 - Religion and Science

 

Hebrew Bible/Old Testament (5 credits)

Choose one 5 credit course from among options such as:

• THRS 2021 - The Book of Genesis

• THRS 3000 - The Hebrew Bible

• THRS 3010 - Torah: The Birth of a People

• THRS 3020 - Women and the Hebrew Bible

 

New Testament (5 credits)

Choose one 5 credit course from among options such as:

• THRS 2000 - New Testament Storytellers: Jesus

• THRS 2001 - New Testament Storytellers: St. Paul

• THRS 2002 - John: A Different Gospel

• THRS 3070 - Global Apocalypse!

• THRS 3211 - God and Empire

 

Theological Ethics (5 credits)

Note: Courses chosen may not also satisfy UCOR Ethical Reasoning requirement.

Choose one 5 credit course from among options such as:

• THRS 2200 - Theological Ethics of Hope and Moral Power

• THRS 3230 - Biomedical Ethics: The Giving and Taking of Life

• THRS 3240 - Religion and Ecology

• THRS 3241 - Contemporary Ethical Issues

 

Advanced Courses (20 credits)

Prerequisites for all advanced courses are UCOR 2100 and 3100.
