Redhawk Launch Header

Redhawk Launch is an in-person experience for first-year students and up to two guests (e.g., parent or family members) to visit Seattle University in July. You’ll learn about essential campus resources, connect with faculty and staff, and find your flock of new friends. This event is designed to help set you up for a successful transition to college. Guest orientation sessions are designed to equip your closest supporters with the knowledge and context they need to support students throughout their transition to college.

All incoming first-year students are required to attend Redhawk Launch.

  • Please be advised that sessions are limited to 200 students and fill quickly. All spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. 
  • Please do not finalize travel plans to attend Redhawk Launch before you receive confirmation of your RSVP, as space for each session is limited.

The deadline for students and guests to RSVP for Redhawk Launch is Monday, June 15, 2026.

We host 5 sessions on the following dates:

  • Session 1: Monday, July 13 – Tuesday, 14 (two-day program, overnight housing provided for students)
  • Session 2: Friday, July 17 (one-day program)
  • Session 3: Monday, July 20 (one-day program)
  • Session 4: Thursday, July 23 – Friday, July 24 (two-day program, overnight housing provided for students)
  • Session 5: Friday, September 18
    • One-day program. Redhawk Launch Session 5 is reserved for international students and students traveling from locations outside of Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, and Montana.

We recognize you and your guests’ availability and needs for visiting campus in July may vary. We offer one-day and two-day programs to help meet these needs. Both options offer the same content, so you won’t miss out on essential information by choosing one over the other. Read below to learn what is unique about each option so you can choose the program that is best for you.

Please be advised that sessions are limited to 200 students and fill quickly. All spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The deadline for students and guests to RSVP for Redhawk Launch is Monday, June 15, 2026.

Two-Day Program

  • On Day 1, you will arrive in the early afternoon to check in and bring your overnight luggage to your room. After the Welcome Session, students and guests split off for separate sessions. Orientation Leaders gather students into groups and guide you to interactive workshops throughout the day until you reconnect with guests for dinner. After dinner, guests depart campus and students attend social activities.
  • On Day 2, you’ll check out of your room and head to breakfast before meeting with your Academic Advisor. Guests attend separate morning sessions. Students and guests then reconnect to attend additional sessions together, including a sample class with faculty. After the closing session, you’ll pick up your luggage before departing campus. Cornish College of the Arts students and guests visit the South Lake Union campus on Day 2. Transportation to and from First Hill will be provided.

One-Day Program

Students and guests arrive at the First Hill campus in the morning to check in. After the welcome session, students and guests split off for separate sessions. Orientation Leaders gather students into groups and guide you to interactive workshops throughout the day until you reconnect with guests for lunch. After lunch, students and guests attend a sample class with faculty together, before separating for additional sessions. You’ll reconnect for our closing session before departing campus in the late afternoon. This program does not include a visit to the South Lake Union campus, however, information and resources for Cornish College of the Arts students and their guests are integrated into sessions throughout the day.

  • Students: Log into your Orientation Portal and click on the “Orientation Events” tab. There is no fee for SU students to attend Redhawk Launch. The cost of this program is included in the Orientation Fee that is part of your first term bill.
  • Guests: After students sign up to attend Redhawk Launch, they can add up to 2 guests to their RSVP. 
    • We strongly encourage students to bring at least 1 guest (e.g., a parent or family member) to Redhawk Launch. Guest orientation sessions are designed to equip your closest supporters with the knowledge and context they need to support students throughout their transition to college.

There are no additional fees to change which session you plan to attend. If you have already signed up for Redhawk Launch and would like to change which Session you plan to attend, please follow these steps:

  • Up to 10 business days before the start date of the event: Please visit the Orientation Events tab in your Orientation Portal and select a new date.
  • Less than 10 business days before the start date of the event: Please email orientation@seattleu.edu.

A Guest is anyone who is not an incoming, new Seattle University student. Parents, family members, friends, and supporters are all considered guests. Please note Redhawk Launch may not be an appropriate environment for young children.

GUEST SESSIONS

Students and Guests attend most sessions separately. Guest sessions are designed to equip a student's closest supporters with the knowledge and context they need to support students throughout their transition to college. You can see an example of the guest schedule by scrolling down this page to "Sample Redhawk Launch Guest Schedule." Guests cannot join their student to attend student sessions.

GUEST FEES

  • There is a $100 fee for each guest who attends Redhawk Launch, which covers meals and program supplies. Overnight housing is not provided for Guests.
  • Guest fees can be paid with a debit or credit card. The guest fee must be paid at the time of signing up. Payments cannot be accepted over the phone or in-person.
  • The deadline for students and guests to RSVP for Redhawk Launch is Monday, June 15, 2026.
  • Only students can log into their Orientation Portal to access and complete the RSVP form for Redhawk Launch.
  • We strongly encourage students and any guests to complete their RSVP form together so you may coordinate dates and travel plans.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

  • Cancellations can be made at any time, however, may not include a refund. If you need to cancel your RSVP, please email orientation@seattleu.edu.
  • If you must cancel a guest’s RSVP, a refund (minus transaction fee; approximately 2.3% plus $0.30 per transaction) will be provided up to 10 calendar days before the start date of the event.
  • Refunds will not be provided after 10 calendar days before the start date of the event.
  • Refunds are not provided for no-shows.

DEADLINES TO REQUEST A REFUND

  • Refunds for in-person events close 10 calendar days before the start date of the event. We cannot provide refunds past the dates listed below:
    • Redhawk Launch Session 1 (July 13 - 14, overnight event) - July 3 at 11:59pm PT
    • Redhawk Launch Session 2 (July 17, one-day event) - July 7 at 11:59pm PT
    • Redhawk Launch Session 3 (July 20, one-day event) - July 10 at 11:59pm PT
    • Redhawk Launch Session 4 (July 23 - 24, overnight event) - July 13 at 11:59pm PT
    • Redhawk Launch Session 5 (September 18, one-day event) - September 8 at 11:59pm PT

 

After you submit your RSVP, you will receive a confirmation email that you have a spot at the session you signed up for. You and your guests will also receive a confirmation email if you sign up any guests. During the week leading up to your session, we will send you reminder messages that include a packing list and instructions for parking and arrival to campus.

ARRIVAL AND OVERNIGHT INFORMATION

Please review the following information carefully as you plan for your visit to campus. Scroll further down to see student and guest sample schedules.

ARRIVAL
Please check your Redhawk Launch email communications for which Parking Garage to use. If you plan to use public transit, please use King County’s Trip Planner.

CHECK-IN
Check-In locations are based on which Redhawk launch event you are attending. Check-in locations and times will be released close to the summer, stay tuned!

Overnight Sessions: You will check-in with Orientation and students will receive their room key and conference card before bringing their belongings up to their room.

Parking Permits
Parking on campus will be free for students and their guests while attending Redhawk Launch.
If you plan to park on campus, you must request a parking permit via the link we will send you via text message and email on the morning of your session. This link will be sent to all students and guests who have RSVP’d.

Parking Overnight
Students and Guests are only able to park overnight in the Murphy Garage.

Parking Locations
Details about parking locations will be emailed to you within one week before the start of the event. To avoid fees, Students and Guests should not park in reserved parking spots. If you are charged a parking fee while attending an in-person, orientation event, please send a picture of your parking ticket to orientation@seattleu.edu.

Accessible Parking
Our most accessible parking spaces are located in the Chapel Lot, which you can enter from E Marion St & 12th Ave.

Please review the following guidance for your overnight stay on campus:

Students are provided the following:

  • A shared, double-occupancy room in one of our residence halls
  • 1 Pillow, bed sheets, 1 blanket
  • A hand towel
  • Dinner on Day 1
  • Breakfast and Lunch on Day 2

Students should plan to bring the following:

  • 1 bath towel
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes for 2 days
  • Shower shoes
  • Any personal medications and toiletries
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Phone and charger
  • Photo ID 

Please note that lunch is not provided on Day 1 of overnight sessions. Students and Guests are encouraged to have a meal before arriving to check-in.

  • Students: All students participating in a two-day, overnight session, even those commuting to school in the fall, are required to stay overnight on campus. You will be assigned a roommate who is also in your Orientation Group.

  • Guests: Overnight accommodations are not provided for guests.

The full schedule with room locations will be in our Orientation App. We will send you a link to download the app on the morning of your session. Students are expected to participate in all sessions during their stay on campus for Redhawk Launch.

1:00pm - 2:00pm Off to Class Join a Seattle University faculty member to participate in a sample class experience and learn more about the University Core and the distinction of Jesuit Education.
2:15pm - 3:00pm Academic Advising Workshop Students will meet with their Academic Advisor and other peers in their major to discuss fall classes and learn about advising resources.
3:15pm - 4:00pm The Redhawk Commitment: Campus Health & Safety Hear from campus leaders prioritize the safety and well-being of our close-knit community. Learn how we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment that empowers all of our students.
4:00pm - 4:15pm Closing Session Hear about upcoming events and must know information before you leave for the day.

7:45am - 8:15am Luggage Drop-Off Pack up your overnight items and go to the residence hall lobby to securely drop off your bags. You will be issued a luggage tag, take a picture and keep your tag to later retrieve your items. Luggage will be locked for the reminder of the day, so keep anything you intend to use during the day on you. 
8:00am - 8:45am Breakfast in C Street Join your orientation group for breakfast. Breakfast will stop being served at 8:45am.
9:00am - 10:00am Academic Success at SU Meet with some of our Student Success team members who will discuss some of these changes, strategies for mastering your classes, and helpful campus resources.
10:15am - 11:15am Off to Class Join a Seattle University faculty member to participate in a sample class experience and learn more about the University Core and the distinction of Jesuit Education.
