Mission

Who We Serve

The Center for First-Gen Success supports students who are the first in their family to attend college, defined as having no parent or guardian who has completed a four-year or bachelor’s degree. This definition applies to all Seattle University students, including undergraduate, graduate, and law students, both domestic and international.

We recognize that first-generation identity is shaped by many different family and life experiences, and that students may relate to this identity in diverse ways. If you are unsure whether you identify as first-generation, you are still welcome here. Our community is open, affirming, and committed to meeting students where they are, honoring their experiences, strengths, and aspirations.

What We Do

The Center creates pathways for first-generation students to build belonging, confidence, and success throughout their college journey. Through coaching, programs, workshops, and campus partnerships, we help students navigate academic systems, access resources, strengthen self-efficacy, and develop the skills and networks needed to thrive personally, academically, and professionally. We also foster community and connection by creating spaces where students feel seen, supported, and empowered.
