Biography

Joie Waxler (they/them/theirs) holds a Masters degree in Social Work and Masters degree in Public Health with a certification in Maternal and Child Health. With over a decade of experience in sexual and reproductive health and justice that centers marginalized identities, Joie approaches the world and their work grounded in the idea that all bodies are inherently imbued with immutable worth, and are deserving of dignity, value, and care. Joie takes great care to locate their work and their understanding of it within historical contexts and their present day manifestations. Namely, the systemic contexts of anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism and genocides which has shaped the professions of social work and sexual health, and which requires consistent and concerted effort to resist replicating, particularly from those of us living in bodies deemed white.

Joie currently works at the Q Center at the University of Washington, striving to build access to care, community, and thrival from LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff.
