Biography

Dr. DeQuindre C. Hughes, born and raised in Franklin, Tennessee, is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Counseling in the College of Education at Seattle University. His appointment for the 2026/2027 academic year reflects his dedication to advancing counselor education through teaching, scholarship, and service.

Dr. Hughes earned his Doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision from The Ohio State University, where his dissertation focused on career and STEM-focused interventions for African American students. His research interests include K-12 STEM education, school-based career counseling, counselor self-efficacy, and wellness practices. He has published and presented nationally on topics of equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive counseling.

Beyond academia, Dr. Hughes enjoys trail running, attending live concerts, and exploring comedy. In one memorable year, he and his wife saw an incredible lineup of performers including Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Ludacris, Glass Animals, Boyz II Men, Gabriel Iglesias ("Fluffy"), Jeff Dunham, Lit, Sugar Ray, Tonic, Avril Lavigne, Hozier, Simple Plan, The Girlfriends, Nelly, Matt Rife, and Katt Williams. His passion for music and comedy reflects his love of creativity and shared experiences.  He also enjoys pepperoni pizza, playing video games, reading and studying Scripture, and is a huge Quentin Tarantino fan. His favorite films include Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 2, and The Hateful Eight. He has a deep appreciation for art and history museums and loves traveling with his wife.

Dr. Hughes blends his professional expertise with personal passions, creating a life enriched by scholarship, creativity, and meaningful experiences.
