The Spehar-Halligan Professorship embodies the values that guide CEIE's work. Among these values are ethical responsibility and engagement with the complex world we live in today.

Rather than standing apart from the Center’s mission, the Professorship deepens it. It provides academic grounding while encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue, public scholarship, and forms of leadership that move outward—toward communities, institutions, and the common good.
