Creating Community in Your Canvas Course

While much has been written about developing online and hybrid courses, there is far less attention paid to how to facilitate one. Courses are generally built with teaching presence in mind – but research indicates that it is faculty's commitment to interacting with students and engaging the class as a community of learners that determines whether or not the course is effective.

In this fully online, 2-week course you will learn about methods to imbue your online class with your teaching style in a way that also aligns to the Community of Inquiry and Jesuit approaches to course facilitation. You will leave this course with a plan to maintain instructor and community presence and incorporate many of the best practices in online/hybrid course facilitation.

The course will meet online via the Zoom web-conferencing application late in the Winter and Spring terms. Check out the focus box on the right for up to date registration information.
