Early Learning Program

The Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI) Early Learning Program partners with families, teachers, administrators, care providers, and the community to collectively ensure children are ready to flourish in kindergarten and thrive in life.

We focus on the knowledge and skills of adults to raise children from birth to age five. The Early Learning Program uplifts both the uniqueness of each child and the leadership of the whole family while upholding family identities such as race, culture and language as assets. We conduct our community-led work with a lens of racial equity, accessibility, collaboration, respect, cultural relevance and language inclusivity. The SUYI Early Learning Program implements three primary strategies to work with local families and their children from birth to age five.

We convene parents and early learning professionals to share community wisdom and guide our work in early learning through our strategies:

  • Early learning connectors empower community leaders to transform their community by creating meaningful networks
  • Kindergarten Readiness provides support and resources to families with children birth to five to a successful transition to Kindergarten
  • Community Learning Circles is a safe space for all the community to come together and develop reciprocal and meaningful relationships in the neighborhood
