As a prelude to the Racial Equity Summit on April 13th, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion is thrilled to welcome SU Alum, and author of White Fragility and Nice Racism,
Robin DiAngelo, Ph.D. to our campus.

Dr. DiAngelo will lead us in a reflection on the racial dynamics that impact engagement and belonging and how to promote solidarity in action. Based on her second NYT bestselling book, Nice Racism, Dr. DiAngelo will help us explore how a culture of niceness prevents authentic racial progress. Although the focus is on white racial socialization, people of color may also find the analysis valuable as it is one that is rarely affirmed or provided in mainstream society.

Dr. DiAngelo is an Affiliate Associate Professor of Education at the University of Washington. In addition to her academic work, Dr. DiAngelo has been a consultant, educator and facilitator for over 20 years on issues of racial and social justice. She is a Seattle University Alum, graduating in 1991 with a double major in History and Sociology and was our Valedictorian.

Our biannual Racial Equity Summit is scheduled for April 13th, from 8:30am - 1pm. Mark your calendars for March 1st, when we will announce the name of our Keynote Speaker - an internationally recognized and award-winning author! Stay tuned here
