Undeclared Major Advising
A Landing Place for Undecided and Undeclared Students
Discover, Discern, Declare
Not every student enters Seattle University with a declared major. Some students prefer to explore different interests, while others need time to complete the requirements to declare their chosen major. Through coaching and guided activities, your assigned advisor provides you with strategies to discover, discern, and declare your major without losing ground on degree completion.
CHESS Advising
Students in the Undeclared/Undecided program will have a designated academic advisor in the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (CHESS) Advising Center. We focus on student growth rather than just course selection or degree requirements, and use academic coaching techniques like active listening, open-ended questions, and goal setting to help students reflect on their academic journey.
These are some of the activities you may participate in with your advisor:
- Major/Minor Discovery: Narrow down interests and discover new possibilities.
- Major Comparison Activity: Take a guided deep dive into your areas of interest.
- Academic Coaching: Set academic goals that will get you to the major you want.
- Academic Recovery Support: Work with a coach to get back on track or find a better path forward.
