Update on the Presidential Transition

As we look forward to welcoming Dr. Maura Mast as Seattle University’s 23rd president on September 1 and the next chapter in our mission and future, the transition team has been focused on ensuring a strong and successful start to her presidency.

Dear Seattle University Community,

As we look forward to welcoming Dr. Maura Mast as Seattle University’s 23rd president on September 1 and the next chapter in our mission and future, the transition team—working in collaboration with colleagues across the university—has been focused on ensuring a strong and successful start to her presidency. Their efforts include briefing Dr. Mast on the university’s key priorities and opportunities, supporting leadership planning for the upcoming year, and facilitating opportunities for her to engage with our campus community and external partners. I am grateful to everyone contributing their time and expertise to this important work.

Another key element of the transition is ensuring the President's Office is ready to support Dr. Mast from day one. As we prepare for Anne Moran’s departure next month, I am pleased to share that Julie Brady (Chief of Staff, Advancement, and Assistant Vice President, University Events) will begin serving as Interim Chief of Staff to the President on August 15. I know Dr. Mast joins me in thanking Julie for stepping into this important role. Her deep experience, institutional knowledge, and commitment to Seattle University will provide valuable continuity for the Office of the President and the university while the search for a permanent chief of staff continues.

Welcoming a new president is a community effort, and I am grateful for your support in ensuring a successful transition. As we prepare for this exciting moment in the life of our institution, thank you for your commitment to our mission and work.

Sincerely,

Stephen V. Sundborg, S.J.
Interim President
