Update on Hedreen Art Collection
We are writing to provide an update regarding the Hedreen Art Collection and its future role in advancing the arts and arts education at Seattle University.
Dear Seattle University Community,
We are writing to provide an update regarding the Hedreen Art Collection and its future role in advancing the arts and arts education at Seattle University.
Longtime Seattle University supporter and donor Richard Hedreen recently informed the university of his decision to sell approximately 50 works from the broader collection. As Sotheby’s Auction House announces the sale this morning, we wanted the university community to hear this news directly from us. Mr. Hedreen reaffirmed his commitment to gifting the remaining approximately 350 works of art to the university in honor of his late wife, Betty Hedreen, a proud Seattle University alumna.
We remain deeply grateful to Richard Hedreen for his extraordinary generosity and longstanding support of Seattle University. The size, scope, and quality of the collection pledged to the university continue to represent a remarkable opportunity to advance teaching, scholarship, creativity, and public engagement through the arts.
As planning continues over the coming months, we will remain in conversation with the Hedreen family and keep the university community informed as updates to the project are ready to be shared.
Sincerely,
