When I announced last week the establishment of the Staff Council at SU, I shared that I would be consulting with the elections committee to select the council’s first president from the Steering Committee that had led the effort to create the council. At yesterday’s event to officially launch the council, I was pleased to announce that Leann Wagele, assistant dean in the School of Law, will be the first Staff Council president. She will serve a 1 ½-year term. After that, the president will be an elected position.

I am pleased to announce that the Cabinet has approved the proposal put forth by the Staff Council Steering Committee to move forward in establishing a Staff Council at Seattle University. The council will be indispensable in amplifying the voice of our staff, helping to set priorities and the way forward for SU, enhancing the university’s culture and strengthening our efforts to be a more diverse and inclusive community.

The Staff Council Steering Committee held three open forums over the last several weeks. In each forum, Steering Committee members reviewed the work completed to date, presented proposals, and facilitated dialogue around representation, nominations and elections, and the timeline for moving forward. The Steering Committee is currently reviewing the feedback received in the forums and from around campus as we finalize our recommendations for our presentation to the Cabinet that is scheduled for mid-November. If you have input you would like to share with the steering committee, please do so by Friday, Nov. 2
