Howdy, I’m D.M. Millay, I am an Advanced Standing MSW student here at Seattle University (SU). I was able to apply for the advanced standing program because I have received my bachelor’s degree in social work. I started the MSW program in August of 2021 with 6 other advanced standing classmates. We had an intensive summer quarter, compiling two 10-week courses into 4 weeks along with an introduction course called advanced practicum seminar.

There are limitless paths you can decide to pursue when entering the field of social work. One important path to consider is becoming certified in substance use disorder treatment with individuals diagnosed with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.

Deciding on which MSW program to go to was a daunting task back when I began applying to graduate schools. I didn’t know anyone who had been to graduate school, and I wasn’t sure what I should be looking for in a school. The purpose of this post is to explain what went into my decision-making process in hopes that it might assist someone else who is trying to figure out what school to go to.

I don’t know how others are feeling, but my second year of the Seattle University MSW program is feeling so much different from my first. I remember having a clueless feeling when I started the program and scouring the website to soak up as much information as I could. Even with all that research, I still wasn’t totally sure what to expect when it came to day-to-day schedule. So here is a look into what my schedule has looked like during my last year of graduate school.

It is finally fall and students are back on campus at Seattle University. Being on campus can be confusing, especially if you are new to the school. I have compiled a list of things that may be helpful to a newcomer or students who haven’t had a chance to explore the area yet.
