DIUS 3010 - Vascular Sonography I

Vascular Sonography I is the first quarter of a three quarter specialty series in the Diagnostic Ultrasound (DIUS) program. This course establishes the foundation for you to provide excellent care for your Vascular Sonography patients. This course will examine the role of the Sonographer in following current industry best practices to ensure accurate care each step of the Sonography exam. Emphasis will be placed on the standard imaging protocols and normal criteria of the anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics and sonographic appearance of the vasculature of the brain, neck, upper extremities, abdomen and lower extremities.

General Sonography I is the first quarter of a three quarter specialty series in the Diagnostic Ultrasound (DIUS) program. This course will examine the role of the Sonographer in following current industry best practices to ensure accurate care each step of the Sonography exam. Cardiac Sonography I is the first quarter of a three quarter specialty series in the Diagnostic Ultrasound (DIUS) program. This course establishes the foundational knowledge and skill to provide care for the Cardiac Sonography patient. This course will examine the role of the Sonographer in the context of industry best practices to ensure accurate care during each step of the Sonography exam. Emphasis will be on the standard imaging protocols and normal criteria of the anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics and sonographic appearance of the heart.

This course will apply the principles and calculations from Ultrasound Physics to discuss the advantages and limitations of the advanced concepts of ultrasound instrumentation used to create Diagnostic Ultrasound images.

Due to the nature of this course offering, most of your time will be spent away from the university campus. During this clinical immersion, you will gain independence and proficiency with performing Sonography exams in preparation for your credentialing board exams.

NURS-2520 Health Care in 21st Century

3 credit hours
An examination of contemporary nursing and diagnostic ultrasound practice with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration in health care delivery systems. We will explore ethical and legal implications for healthcare providers, holism, wellness, health care delivery, communication, critical thinking, and the nursing process. Beginning development of critical thinking, cultural responsiveness, interprofessional communication and collaboration, and team process skills.

NURS-3205 Pathophysiology

5 credit hours
A conceptual approach to alterations in structure and function resulting from stressors on the human body. Course will review the cellular and molecular basis of these alterations. The course will examine pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease such as inflammation, genetic alterations, immune responses, and alteration in the functions of body systems.

UCOR-3600 Social Sci & Global Challenges

5 credit hours
Courses in the social sciences that explore important global issues through the lens of the social sciences. Each course focuses on a particular issue/challenge and course content assists students in understanding key disciplinary knowledge and approaches that provide insight into the issue. Students explore ways to productively think about and address the issue. These courses help students increase their understanding of complex global issues, develop knowledge of a social science as it relates to a global issue, explore approaches to and solutions for global issues, develop skills and confidence in applying know ledge to complex issues, and improve writing and research skills. Global Challenges courses include students from a variety of disciplines, promoting interdisciplinary conversation and understanding. This course requires a major paper or project, as well as some kind of reflective assignment where students are asked to synthesize their overall learning as it relates to the global issue being studied. Community-based learning is encouraged but not required.
