Monday, April 22, 2024

Congratulations are in order for the team, who with the win secures a berth in the NCAA Women’s Golf Tournament.

Kudos to Seattle University’s women golf team, which claimed the program’s first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship on April 21, posting the day’s best round of 10-over 294 to defeat Abilene Christian by two strokes.

Rivekka Jumagulova, winner of the last two WAC Golfer of the Week honors, continued her stellar play for the Redhawks as she tied for sixth place at 11-over 224 (72-75-77).

Aaryanna Morris (74-80-71) and Annika Cruz (82-74-69) provided stellar final rounds to propel the Redhawks into first place, finishing tied for 10th with three-round totals of 12-over 225. Cruz's final round score of two-under 69 marked the best single round performance by any golfer this weekend. Morris followed up Cruz's effort with the only other round that was even or under par on the last day.

After a slow start on the opening day saw them in sixth place, the Redhawks began their comeback effort in the second round with the tournament's second-best overall team round at 10-over 294.

Tsara Ralamboarison (77-72-78) and Shayna Lu (81-73-77) posted strong second rounds to allow SU the chance to get back into the tournament. Ralamboarison marked the fourth Redhawk to finish inside the Top 15, tying for 13th overall at 14-over 227.

The 2024 NCAA Tournament selection show will air Wednesday, April 24, at 11 a.m. pacific time on the Golf Channel. The NCAA Regionals then take place May 6-8, followed by the championship finals from May 17-22 in Carlsbad, Calif.
