Medical Social Worker

Biography

Hello there. My name is Hayden and I got the opportunity to teach my first course Winter 2026 at Seattle U. I work as social work educator and curriculum designer whose work centers on advancing health equity, trauma‑informed practice, and culturally responsive care. I specialize in medical social work, Indigenous health equity, and the structural forces that shape patient and provider experiences in healthcare settings. In my teaching, I try to integrate clinical skill development with critical reflection, preparing students to navigate complex systems with clarity, compassion, and professional rigor.

My last 7 years have been expertise in gender‑affirming care and I am committed to ensuring that transgender and gender‑diverse individuals receive respectful, accurate, and affirming support. I do this with all patients I work with. I believe that kindness is the core to clinical competency, a practice that strengthens trust, enhances safety, and improves outcomes across diverse patient populations. In the classroom, I try to create learning environments that are both challenging and supportive, encouraging students to build confidence, deepen their clinical reasoning, and approach their work with humility and integrity. I believe that I am constantly learning and growing myself as a working professional. I look forward to having you in class. Thank you to Seattle U for this opportunity.
