Inspired by the Jesuit intellectual tradition, Seattle University’s College of Education prepares ethical, informed
and reflective leaders ready to make systemic changes from the classroom to the boardroom. Our 11 graduate degrees and related certificate programs prepare students for a variety of educational careers and leadership for a just and humane world.
Ben Talbert, a College of Education graduate student in the Superintendent Program, is a recipient of the 2014 AASA Education Administration Scholarship award. The $2,000 award for graduate studies was presented to Ben in February at the 2014 AASA National Conference on Education in Nashville, Tennessee. He is one of five national scholarship award winners. Talbot is the principal of Rainier Middle School in Auburn. AASA is the American Association of School Administrators, a national leadership organization supporting school superintendents.
The second annual Impact! Safe Schools event, which brings local high school students together with city and university law enforcement officials to learn how to make schools safer, returns to Seattle University on March 11, 2014. School Psychology Program Director Dr. Samuel Song, who has extensive academic expertise in the field of youth violence and bullying, facilitates the annual event.
Congratulations to College of Education alumnus David M. Johnson, EdD, '87, the winner of Seattle University's 2014 Alumni Award for Professional Achievement. Dr. Johnson, a graduate of the College's Educational Leadership doctoral program, is CEO of Navos, which offers mental health services to low-income children and adults with serious and persistent mental illness. Seattle University welcomes Dr. Deanna Sands as the new dean of the College of Education, beginning July 1. Dr. Sands has spent the past 26 years serving as professor and associate dean of research and professional learning in the School of Education at the University of Colorado Denver (UC Denver).
