Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kailash Satyarthi Coming to SU

April 2, 2024

Satyarthi will speak in conversation with RoundGlass India Center Founder and Director Sital Kalantry about global compassion as a transformative tool for justice, peace and sustainability.

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kailash Satyarthi will be speaking at Seattle University on Friday, April 5, 6–8 p.m. in Wyckoff Auditorium. Sponsored by the RoundGlass India Center, Satyarthi will speak about the movement for global compassion.

”Mr. Satyarthi’s life-long advocacy for inclusion and justice for the must vulnerable members of society has changed India and the world,” says Sital Kalantry, JD, founder and director of RoundGlass India Center. “As a social reformer, he is one of India’s greatest treasures.”

Since 1980, Satyarthi’s organization Bachpan Bachao Andolan has liberated more than 100,000 children from child labor, slavery and human trafficking. Satyarthi and his partners have given voice to the voiceless and developed a successful model for education, rehabilitation and reintegration for the children freed from the bonds of oppression. His Global March Against Child Labour galvanized support in 103 countries resulting in the adoption of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labor, which went on to become the only universally ratified convention in the history of the ILO.

In addition to discussing his four decades of humanitarianism, Satyarthi will also discuss the Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion. The Satyarthi Movement is a vision to globalize compassion to restore justice, peace and equity and sustainability in the world by working to define, evaluate and enhance the “compassion quotient” within all of us.

“Mr. Satyarthi is a leading example of how hope and compassion can bring about positive change in challenging times,” says Kalantry. “We are honored to provide a stage for his message and share it not only with our campus community but also the greater Seattle community.”
